2020 Grad Student Competition

Guidelines and Submission Information
Requirements for Oral Presentation:
The competition presentation should last 10 to 12 minutes with 3 to 5 minutes for questions and discussion.
The presentation will be judged based on the following criteria:
- How well the research is described and the results presented,
- Quality of research,
- Use of visual aids,
- Communication effectiveness,
- Response to questions.
Questions about the Competition?
Important:
- Double Dawgs undergraduate students are eligible to compete in the M.S. category.
- You must sign up for either the oral or the poster competition (i.e., the same student cannot be the lead author/presenter in both categories).
- If you placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in a previous year's competition, you cannot compete in the same category (i.e., previous M.S. poster winners will only be eligible for the M.S. oral competition). Note: This does not apply to students who placed at the M.S. level and are now competing at the Ph.D. level.
Requirements for Poster Presentation:
- Posters should be no larger than 48” wide by 40” tall.
- Font should be such that it is easily read from a distance of 6 feet.
- Print should be no smaller than 24 pt ft; 28+ font is preferred.
Requirements for Abstracts:
- Abstracts should be limited to 300 words, using Garamond 12 pt ft., and 1 inch margins.
- No images, tables, or graphs should be included in the abstract.
- Please include all authors (not just presenting author) on the abstract.
- Abstracts will be posted online. Advisors please edit abstracts closely before submission!
