Assistant Dean
Dr. Michael Toews (Toews rhymes with Dave’s) received a BS in biology from Fort Hays State University followed by an MS and PhD in entomology from Oklahoma State University. After post-doctoral fellowships at Kansas State University and the USDA-ARS, he joined the faculty at the University of Georgia as a research entomologist with responsibilities in insect ecology and integrated pest management. In subsequent years, Dr. Toews picked up state Extension specialist responsibilities for stored product entomology, graduate teaching responsibilities, and an administrative role at the Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health.
Dr. Toews was appointed Assistant Dean of the UGA Tifton Campus in 2020; he currently leads a dynamic group of over 630 employees including 81 permanent scientists. The rapidly growing Tifton Campus is experiencing record graduate enrollment, numbers of post-doctoral fellows, and research expenditures. Toews is currently leading initiatives to modernize campus infrastructure and a college-wide DEI plan.
