The Boerma Plant Breeding for Excellence Lecture Series and Graduate Student Award for Excellence are named for Dr. H. Roger Boerma, emeritus distinguished research professor and executive director of Georgia Seed Development. Dr. Boerma has made significant contributions to plant breeding through the development of new cultivars of soybean and has been a leader in developing organizations that ensure the training of future generations of plant breeders. The CAES Institute of Plant Breeding, Genetics, and Genomics with the support of the Roger and Cindy Boerma Endowment, will host the 3rd annual event at 3:30PM on September 13th, 2024 at the National Environmentally Sound Production Agriculture Laboratory (NESPAL) in Tifton. This lecture will feature Dr. Philipp Simon, vegetable breeder and geneticist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and USDA-VCRU Research Leader.
