Obinna Aduba, Entomology - Ph.D. student with Dr. John Ruberson - (Third place C. M. Beckham award), Ph.D. student competition, 76th Annual Meeting of the Georgia Entomological Society of America. April, 4-6, 2012. Statesboro, GA.

John Beasley, Crop and Soil Sciences - Received the Distinguished Service Award presented by National Association of County Agricultural Agents. Received the Distinguished Service Award presented by Georgia Association of County Agricultural Agents. Associate Editor, Crop Science, journal of the Crop Science Society of America.

John Bernard, Animal and Dairy Science - Received the Pioneer Hi-Bred Forage Award from American Dairy Science Association.
Appointed as a Diplomat in the American College of Animal Sciences, Animal Nutrition Discipline by the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientist. Appointed as Adjunct Professor, Clemson University. Co-Chair of Dairy Calf & Heifer International Conference which was held in Visalia, CA.

Doyle F. Cheek, USDA ARS Crop Genetics and Breeding - Co-winner of the 2011 Research Technician Award for the ARS South Atlantic Area.

Rattandeep Gill, NESPAL Graduate student with Dr. Peggy Ozias-Akins attended the 89th meeting of the Southern Division of APS, Graduate Student competition and received honorable mention for her presentation: “Characterization of a recombinant inbred line (RIL) population for resistance to late leaf spot in cultivated peanut (Arachis hypogaea).”

Wayne Hanna, Crop and Soil Sciences - Inducted into the Georgia Ag Hall of Fame. Received the U.S. Golf Association Green Section Award.

Ta-I Huang, Entomology - Ph.D. student with Dr. Michael Toews - won second place in Ph.D. student paper competition at the 75th Annual Meeting of the Georgia Entomological Society held April 6-8, 2011 at Cordele, GA.

Tom Ingram, Plant Pathology - Graduate student with Dr. Tim Brenneman, received first place for student competition at Georgia Association of Plant Pathology (GAPP) meeting entitled: “Latent infections of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides in pecan leaves.”

Carroll Johnson and Dan Evarts, USDA ARS Crop Protection and Management - Received the 2012 Land Stewardship Award. This award was created by Georgia Organics, to honor an individual or individuals who have contributed greatly towards the organic agriculture movement in Georgia. The Land Stewardship Award has traditionally been given to a farmer, agricultural professional or researcher who has demonstrated a commitment to the tenets of organic agriculture – soil fertility, biodiversity, on-farming recycling, and water quality – and also the larger community through leadership, education, and outreach.

Changying Li,  Biological and Agricultural Engineering - Early Career Award from the Association of Overseas Chinese Agricultural, Biological and Food Engineers (AOCABFE). 2011.

Duncan McClusky, Library - Inducted into the Dixie Wheelchair Athletic Association Hall of Fame. Attended the annual games for about 18 years to take pictures.

Justin Moss, Crop and Soil Sciences - M.S. Student with Dr. Scott Tubb’s received the following: Georgia Feed and Grain Association Fellowship. Based on scholastic ability, character, professional qualifications, and initiative/leadership qualities. ($2000); C03 Crop Ecology, Management and Quality Division M.S. Graduate Student Poster Competition (First Place) – Crop Science Society of America, 2011 International Annual Meeting. ($300); and Graduate Student Oral Competition (Second Place) – Annual Meeting of American Peanut Research and Education Society. ($250).

Calvin Perry, Biological and Agricultural Engineering - Received certificate recognizing 25 years membership in American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers.

Imana Power, Plant Pathology - Graduate student with Dr. Albert Culbreath, won the 12th I.E. Melhus Graduate Student Symposium Award. The symposium is entitled: “Host Plant Resistance and Disease management: Current Status and Future Outlook” and includes a travel award of $500 to attend the APS Annual Meeting in Providence, RI.

Ishakh Pulakkatu thodi, Entomology - Ph.D. student with Dr. Michael Toews - won first place in the Ph.D. student paper competition at the Joint Meeting of the Southeastern and Southwestern Branches of the Entomological Society of America held March 4-7, 2012 at Little Rock, Arkansas. A member of the UGA team that won the Linnaean Games (entomology quiz bowl) at the Joint Meeting of the Southeastern and Southwestern Branches of the Entomological Society of America held March 4-7, 2012 at Little Rock, Arkansas.

The National Association of Extension 4-H Agents (NAE4-HA) recognizes a state winner of excellence for outstanding communication efforts annually. Tifton's Kyle Dean interviewed Keri Hobbs and Morgan Bowen on WTIF Radio's "Farm Chat" to recognize Morgan for her recent Leadership In Action State Award, increase awareness of 4-H youth development service and leadership projects, and inform the public of the youth-led service event "4-H Christmas in July."
